Unique, quirky, and beautiful.
Florida is a place like no other. From scrub to the Everglades this state has unique habitats and animals…but they are in danger. With more than 23 million people who live in the state we need to make sure we can balance the needs of human residents with the needs of nature. Corridors (think I-4) help us get from on place to another but what if that was the only way to get from Tampa to Daytona and there was a permanent wreck? That is what happens when you put a development in a wildlife corridor that is not designed to accommodate all residents, people and animals. Corridors are extremely important for wildlife. Love Birds?
Who doesn’t love birds? For 125 years the Audubon Society has been a leading voice in the conservation of birds and the the wild spaces they need. Birds are really the “canary in the coal mine” alerting us to environmental problems. Rachel Carson’s seminal work, Silent Spring made this clear.
“It was a spring without voices. On the mornings that had once throbbed with the dawn chorus of robins, catbirds, doves, jays, wrens, and scores of other bird voices there was now no sound; only silence lay over the fields and woods and marsh”.
